Family Catechesis
Faith formation and sacrament preparation for everyone. Questions: Br. Michael Paul, family@loyoladenver.org.
What is Family Catechesis?
Family Catechesis recognizes parents as the first educators of their children in the faith. Parents and children learn together through monthly family sessions, so that faith formation carries naturally into home life.
Why this way?
Our goal is to encourage and equip parents in their God-given duty and privilege of teaching their children the Catholic faith. When families learn together, faith formation becomes more meaningful and lasting for children and adults alike.
Who can join?
Everyone. The program is built around a community of families, but all are invited: to learn more about the faith, grow in community, receive the sacraments, and help lead breakout sessions and classes.
When does it meet?
All together one Sunday a month, after the 10:00 a.m. Mass, in Brady Hall. Families of children preparing for sacraments meet one additional Sunday a month. Adults in OCIA meet weekly through Credo at the Cathedral.
What does it cost?
Families $60, individuals $45.
Sacraments for children
The Archdiocese of Denver follows the restored order:
- 2nd grade: First Reconciliation
- 3rd grade: Confirmation and First Communion together
An unbaptized child seven or older is admitted to the catechumenate and receives Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist at the same celebration (Archdiocese of Denver Pastoral Handbook 5.2.8.3-4).
