Becoming Catholic
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). To begin, contact Br. Michael Paul at family@loyoladenver.org or call the office at 303-322-8042.
OCIA is the ancient process by which adults enter the Catholic Church: a spiritual journey of prayer, study and fellowship. Its goal is to learn the Catholic faith, to deepen one's love for God, and to walk more closely as a disciple of Jesus.
Who is it for?
- Anyone 18 or older interested in becoming Catholic, or simply in learning more about the Catholic faith
- Baptized Catholics who still need Confirmation or First Communion
- Catholics preparing for a sacrament such as Confirmation or Matrimony
- Catholics who want to grow deeper in their faith
Teens prepare through the Order of Christian Initiation for Teens (OCIT), and children seven and older through OCIA adapted for children. The same contact applies.
What is it like?
OCIA is a journey of the mind, learning the Catholic faith; of the heart, growing in love for God; of the will, a deeper conversion to the Christian way of life; and of friendship, meeting others on the same road. It meets weekly from fall through Easter, through Credo at the Cathedral, when those entering the Church receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Sessions include teaching, small-group discussion and fellowship, with prayer, reading and video between sessions. We use the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Families with children can also take part in Family Catechesis, one Sunday a month.
